AUSTIN DAVIS, PASTORAL COUNSELOR
I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate who is passionate about helping women see their true value and fully live out their purpose.
I believe that our mental, emotional, and spiritual selves are highly interconnected. I seek to help families, couples, and individuals gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I enjoy helping clients gain new perspectives on their struggles, practice self-compassion, learn effective coping strategies, and work through conflict and relational issues.
My hope is that every client feels heard and valued during our sessions together so we can collaboratively work on reaching your goals.
As a clinical therapist, I enjoy working with children and adults who are navigating grief, anxiety, depression, general loss, relationship challenges, trauma, anticipatory loss, and life transitions. My style of therapy is compassionate and responsive to the person’s unique needs.
My goal is to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel secure to openly explore your emotions and experiences. I believe in supporting individuals with a collaborative, strengths-based approach. I help the client identify their own inherent gifts, set goals for themselves, and develop coping strategies that help them live out their purpose.
I am trained and certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) which is a fast and effective treatment for trauma, depression, and other stress-related conditions.
As a Pastoral Counselor (pursuing licensure in the state of Kentucky), I am passionate about creating a safe space for people to wrestle with God and any other aspect of their faith. I am also a therapist who is eager to come alongside people and assist them in finding the tools they need in pursuit of a healthier mental, and spiritual, well-being.
I believe that our view of God, or how we believe God views us, has a direct affect on our mental health and on our ability to cope with the various crises that life often throws at us. It is because of this belief that I joyfully operate as a counselor in both the mental health space, as well as the spiritual health space, and seek to let them inform and influence one another.
I also believe that the counseling relationship is at its best when the focus is on asking better questions, as opposed to finding answers. Better questions lead to bigger, bolder questions, and no question is too big to ask in the counseling space, because no question is too big for God.
I am a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator. This is a marital and premarital assessment tool aimed at helping couples grow in their relationship and communication skills with one another, either to strengthen their marriage or in preparing themselves to be married.
MADDIE LONG, LCSW
HANNAH PEÑALVA, MFTA
As a clinical therapist, I am passionate about meeting clients where they are to connect their strengths with their goals. I work with children and adults navigating grief, anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, anticipatory loss, ADHD diagnosis, and life transitions.
I believe we, as people, have different dimensions that work together: spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental. I work collaboratively and with a strengths-based approach to help clients meet their goals, navigate relationships, and thrive in who God made them to be.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to assist clients in moving through past trauma and difficult experiences effectively.
My goal is for clients to be seen and known in sessions to bloom into who they were made to be.
As a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, I am passionate about helping women understand their worth in all aspects of their lives.
I enjoy helping women learn healthy conflict management, practical coping skills, and emotional awareness. It is important to me that every client, whether family, couple or individual, leaves our sessions feeling empowered and understood.
I believe it is crucial to create a partnership between every client and myself in collaborating to reach attainable emotional, relational, physical, and spiritual goals.
At this time, Hannah is no longer taking new clients, but if you have already received services from her and only require monthly maintenance check-ins, you can reach out in November.
WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING
Therapy has given me a safe place to share my feelings and get active input on how to combat my anxiety, understand my feelings, and not feel guilty for feeling the way I feel.
It has helped me find a safe place to talk about life issues and I felt better when I left
I have gained a sense of my identity in Christ. I have been able to address my emotions as they come and have improved in letting myself feel those emotions. I have improved my concept of self-worth and am still learning how to heal and cope.

WHAT IS PASTORAL COUNSELING?
First and foremost, it is counseling:
-
Helping equip people with the tools and skills they need to get through life’s challenges.
-
Addressing all aspects of our humanity: physical, psychological, and spiritual.
-
Trained in various therapeutic techniques with a preference for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy.
-
Listening and allowing the client to lead.
What does the pastoral part entail:
-
Theologically trained.
-
Focus on how our spirituality influences our physical/psychological well-being, and vice versa.
-
Equipped to help people wrestling with their faith.
-
Scripturally based.
-
Trained in spiritual formation.
What Pastoral Counseling is not:
-
I am not a pastor who counsels.
-
A counselor for pastors exclusively.
-
A space for evangelism/conversion.
-
A space for bible thumping.
-
A space where prayer or reading your bible more is the answer to every problem.
What is my goal as a Pastoral Counselor:
-
To create a safe space to wrestle with God.
-
A focus on seeking to ask better questions instead of a focus on answers.
-
A safe space to work on your mental health
Some questions I would explore as a Pastoral Counselor:
-
Why are you a Christian?
-
How does your faith affect your day-to-day life?
-
How do your beliefs play into your current struggle or situation?
