God gives Christians His Holy Spirit, His Word, and His other children to help us live a godly life on this earth. Therefore, we should spend time in prayer, spend time in God's Word, and spend time talking to other Christians in our close community when we are making a decision.
Prayer
"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."
- Psalm 37:4
Spend time in prayer talking to God about the decision at hand. Ask Him to align your heart with His, for when our hearts are aligned with His, He shapes our desires to align with His purpose for our lives
Bible Study
"For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." - Hebrews 4:12
After you've brought your requests to God and asked Him for wisdom and direction, head to His Word and trust the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to you as you study it! This will help you to discern whether the decision is God-honoring when you go to steps two and three.
Wise Counsel
"Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others." - Proverbs 12:15
After you have spent some time in prayer and Bible Study, it's a great idea to take your thoughts to a few trusted friends and/or mentors to gather their thoughts.
